Mandate
The main competences of IDT, IP are the following:
To assist
the Government member responsible for Health in the definition of the national strategy and the policies in the field of drugs, alcohol and drug addictions and in their assessment;
To plan
, coordinate, execute and promote the assessment of prevention, treatment, harm reduction and minimization of damages and social reintegration programmes;
To support
actions in order to increase the dissuasion of the use of psychoactive substances;
To licence
health care centres in the area of drug addictions, in the private and social sectors, to define the respective technical-therapeutic requisites, and to follow up their functioning and fulfilment, in articulation with the Central Health Administration, without prejudice of the sanctioning competence of the Health Regulating Entity;
To develop
, promote and foster research and to keep an information system on the drugs and drug addiction phenomena, in order to fulfil the activities and goals as a member of the European Monitoring Centre on Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA);
To ensure
the cooperation with national and international bodies in the fields of drugs, alcohol and drug addiction.
