Prevention
Prevention Objectives

- The main objectives of the Prevention Unit are:

  • prevent the first use of drugs
  • prevent the use and abuse of drugs
  • prevent the regular use, misuse or dependence

- The aim of Prevention Unit is, with no doubt, to avoid the use of any licit or illicit psychoactive substances with special incidence in the youth.

Surveys showed that the use of psychoactive substances as other risk factors, are starting at early ages.

To delay the beginning age of use, the intervention should be enlarged to a younger age through interventions in school settings.

The actual patterns of use show the importance of polidrugs use, on this specific group with special relevance to alcohol and occur in recreational settings.

The intervention should be done by well prepared teams intervening in recreational settings, near the youngsters with psychoactive substances pattern of use, giving information and promoting competence skills to cease the use, decrease the frequency and/or intensity of use and prevent risk behaviours linked to this.

These are tools used by those teams in stricter articulation with counselling and treatment teams.
