The Institute for Drugs and Drug Addiction, I.P., IDT, I.P., is an autonomous service of the Ministry of Health created by Law Decree 221/2007, published May 29th, 2007.
IDT, I.P. is competent for licit and illicit drugs, thus comprising alcohol and illicit drugs, its structure is one that encompasses one Central Service and five Regional Delegations, comprehending 4 Detoxification units (in 2007) – corresponding to 46 beds, 3 inpatient drug free treatment (public therapeutic communities) – corresponding to 56 beds, and 2 Day Centres – corresponding to 40 placements.
This public supply is complemented by allocated beds and placements from the private sector:
6 Detoxification units - corresponding to 65 beds;
64 inpatient drug free treatment (therapeutic communities) – corresponding to 1339 beds;
4 Day Centres – corresponding to 175 placements
3 Alcoholgical Units with alcohol specialized units, with outpatient clinics and detoxification inpatient clinics.
